Sooo I am super bad at updating! Life highlights:

Last week I started a job that's temp to permanent... so meaning long term and hopefully permanent before I'm booted off my parents insurance at the end of August. I'm a receptionist so not my dream job but steady work is steady work so I'll do my job and keep applying to other stuff as it comes open. I'm almost halfway to saving up for a car and once I have that I can start looking for jobs in other parts of my state.

I went to Japan December 29-January 4. It was stressful because lots of traveling while we traveled--we stayed in Tokyo for a couple days then went to Kyoto for NYE and also took a day trip to Osaka--but it was also awesome. I got to see a lot of cool things and eat a lot of good food. Would love to go back someday.

I watched all of Star Trek: Voyager and Kate Mulgrew is my hero. Would really love a Starfleet Academy show with her as Professor/Admiral Janeway.

Ermm and that's probably all the big stuff. lol yes Star Trek is part of "big stuff."

Also I've decided to go to New York City Comic Con this year w00t!

comics I am readingCollapse )

1. Comment on this post with "the revolution will be televised."
2. I will give you a letter.
3. Think of 5 fictional characters and post their names and your comments on these characters in your LJ/DW.

[personal profile] redbrunja gave me P, which was hard. :p

"If you do anything to my baby I will kill you. I will hunt you and kill you even if it means coming back from the dead and don't think I wont find a way to do that."

Piper is my favourite character in Charmed. She starts out hating her powers and being pretty shy and awkward but as the show goes on she embraces her powers because of the good she can do with them and becomes this badass maternal figure who holds her family together. She's also delightfully snarky. Just a fantastic character all around. Most of my favourite moments from the series are with her. This show also makes me desperately wish I had sisters like Piper does (I'm an only child).

Pepper Potts (does this one get bonus points?)
"I was having 12% of a moment."

Badass and you know itCollapse )

Pepper is one of my favourite parts about the Iron Man movies; she's fierce and takes charge, she can handle Tony and doesn't put up with his b/s, and she has realistic reactions to stuff--I've heard some people complain about her "freak outs" but come on... she proves that she's a capable woman again and again and she's not allowed to act afraid when there's something/someone trying to kill her? I love all her banter with Tony and I am a total Pepperony shipper.

"You could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him."

Seriously the quote explains it all. I love Peeta so much and always shipped Peeta/Katniss. Generally I hate love triangles but I couldn't really blame Katniss for being torn given everything that's forced on her. Peeta is seriously what I would want in a man: he's sweet, steady, and loves unconditionally.

Milliardo Peacecraft -- aka Zechs Merquise, which is a way better name
"It seems a man who can't get used to peace can still make himself useful."

Zechs gifCollapse )

I love every character in Gundam Wing but Zechs was always a particular favourite. He's a broody asshole and I can't help but love him. Him/Lucrezia Noin are one of my major OTPs. He gets lost and does some dumb shit at the end of the series but he still finds his way back to her.

Poison Ivy/Pamela Isley
"And I figured that despite everything I was your best friend, too! That's right, ain't it, Red?"

Put on a happy face!Collapse )

It's probably sad how many of these responses involve me talking about ships. But I really like Ivy best when she's with Harley. I don't ship Joker/Harley at all (shhh don't tell my friends who love them) but I definitely ship Harley/Ivy. Anytime they team up it ends up being hilarious and awesome.

I also view Ivy as more lesbian than anything because I think she views men as something to be used/manipulated so I can't see her ever entering into a real relationship with a man. My BFF and I actually had a conversation once about how we see Joker as more asexual than anything (unless he can use sexuality as a way to get a laugh) so the only way Harley's gettin' any is from Ivy.

What I really love about Ivy, and many Batman villains in general, is that her motivations are good ones but taken to the extreme. Like she wants the environment/plant-life to be protected, which is an admirable goal. Just... y'know... She gets transformed into this hybrid plant-woman and stops caring about human life in the process.

In light of my last post I must first say apparently Selina/Catwoman is not dead. Or the most recent issue of JLA shows there's "more than meets the eye" going on. Either way no regrets on my reaction.

Life is life. Signed up with a temp agency that's actually getting me work and still applying to other stuff. Fingers crossed y'all. Fingers fucking crossed.

The Heat is FANTASTIC! Everyone go see this if you have even a slight interest in a Sandra B/Melissa M buddy cop movie. I've loved the idea since I first heard it was happening and the movie did not disappoint. Also it's currently doing better than that white washed piece of shit Lone Ranger. Don't even get me started. I've had days recently where, as I've told Brittany, I've been so mad at the white penises I've had to try to step back from reading about anymore of the inequality happening... y'know... everywhere.

Also Despicable Me 2 is adorable. I really would love to see a sequel with the girls as adults having their own adventure (with Gru showing up to be proud papa).

I can't believe how long it's been since I updated! Whoops.

Well nothing is really going on anyway. I'm much more active on twitter if there's anyone reading this who isn't following me! Same username. It's a protected account so I can say what I want and so that if someone I don't want finds it who knows me IRL they don't get to read me uncensored. I also have my "professional" one that's attached to my real identity. Both are pretty much about video games, comic books, and feminism though haha.

Ah hell, let's do a meme:

Pick six fandoms and answer the following questions. Don't look at the questions first.

Long time no update~

Things are pretty much the same as usual. Waiting to hear back from four or five jobs and editing in the mean time (currently procrastinating before getting to work).

Been watching Parks & Rec, Grey's Anatomy, Project Runway, Top Chef, American Horror Story, Elementary, Once Upon a Time, Downton Abbey, How I Met Your Mother, Adventure Time, and some other stuff.

ElementaryCollapse )

Once Upon a TimeCollapse )

Everything else I've been watching I've been enjoying and don't really have any comments on. Although Maggie Smith remains the best part of Downton Abbey.

Adventure in online gaming (Mass Effect 3)Collapse )

I never intend to write long entries but then I always do. I guess it evens out though since I hardly ever update. Quick last words to say I had an awesome holiday season and got to catch up with awesome friends.

I really wish I could use more than six icons. It's not worth giving LJ money but I miss icons and the ability to track comment threads and get emailed when new stuff is posted. :[ [EDIT:] Okay so I upgraded to the stupid plus account. If I hate it in mobile I'm switching back but on desktop chrome ad block blocks the ads anyway. Ha HA! And apparently LJ really loves my Trek icons because that's mostly what I got back. Guess it'll come in handy for when the new movie hits in May (SO FUCKING EXCITED!).

There is no gif out there that could possibly explain my level of squee and feels right now! Let me try anyway:

This weeks episode of Once Upon a Time is my new favourite! Last weeks episode was great but I kept waiting for Emma/Snow adventures and bonding and this week I got it in spades! ::squeals::

GAH. SO. GOOD. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now I get to watch a new The Walking Dead?! It's like x-mas.

EDIT: Some more tidbits.

Two more Once thoughts:
- I did feel really bad for Regina because of what Henry did. She is going to have a tough time of it this season.
- I love how as soon as Once introduces a male character in FTL this season they're like oh wait nope. I enjoy their commitment to letting badass ladies have adventures.

And the Walking Dead was awesome too! I already love Michonne. She's loyal, tough, and wields a katana (and the actress did katana training for the role!)? ::swoons::
Feeling: ecstaticecstatic
Quick sentence about RL: my last full week at the food bank is this week. I've gotten a lot of great experience and am hoping to use the executive director and my boss as references in the future.

Now for just a tiny little squee over Once Upon a Time! I got the complete first season and finished rewatching the whole series today--can't wait for season two! Especially for the "Charming" family reunion. I am going to scream and flail like I did when I found the following pics:

Also I just read Girl with the Dragon Tattoo finally. Good stuff. I am going to start the second book soon. I'm also in the process of reading the rerelease of Batman: No Man's Land, which I can't rec highly enough. Volume four/five won't be out for a while. Oh! And Worlds' Finest issue 0 came out this month and includes two wonderful pages of Batman/Catwoman being parents to Robin/Helena. Between that and Mary Margaret/Snow + Emma in Once I am really sating my love of stories where children exist in a world where their parents are around the same age as them. I don't know why I love it but I do. I love it so.

...Yeah I can't resist posting the Selina/Bruce + Helena pages:

Life is good! Birthday is tomorrow. Got awesome nerdy presents from Miche in the mail today and my grandma and grandpa took me and my mom out for dinner. And my grandpa wants to go see the Dark Knight Rises with me sometime soon! Yay! Get to go to the lake this weekend with Sasha and Brittany too so w00t to the 00t.

I saw TDKR on opening day and I love love loved it. I was expecting to hate it but ahhh. Anne was great as Selina and Nolan/she nailed the character! Plus the ending... So many things that happened were like in my wildest dreams I don't think it'd ever happen in the comics and it made me really happy. Definitely my favourite of the trilogy.

Work is going great! I really like the people and it's nice to be working and making money. Hopefully things keep getting better and I get a full time gig quickly after this is done.

Aaaand I've been reading lots of comics lately. Bought all of Stephanie Brown's run as Batgirl (three volumes) and wish I had way more money so I could get all the comics I want.

I find it really sad that I have less icons on LJ than on DW even though I've had my LJ since June 2002. I let my paid account go down and the thing I miss is being able to track individual comment threads in posts since I've spent a lot of time recently on the Dragon Age kink meme.

Anyway I thought I should probably update, as it's been a while. Not much has changed. work stuff, nothing too excitingCollapse )

Things I currently am digging:

Tamora Pierce books - I'm reading the Circle of Magic/Circle Opens books for the first time and enjoying them. Not as amazing as her Tortall books but still great. I love Rosethorn. In case you were wondering.

Once Upon A Time (see icon!) - I love this show soooo damn much. Emma and Mary Margaret/Snow are my favourites FOREVER. They had an awesome moment (well, several moments) in the last episode that made me squee so hard.

Dragon Age 2 - On my fifth playthrough. Really mad they cancelled the next dlc.

The Walking Dead - Loved the season finale. Loved the season. So excited for badass mysterious cloaked lady who wields a sword! I also got really sick of people complaining about how they were on the farm the whole time. Um... this is not a MOVIE. Shit is not going to move that fast and if you were living through the zombie apocalypse would you want to... constantly be on the move in an unknown world... or bunk down somewhere that's relatively safe and has resources for as long as possible?

Grey's Anatomy - Got my friend into the series after she was telling me how much she liked Patrick Dempsey but yet had never seen Greys. Crazy! So now I've been rewatching it a bit.

The Hunger Games - Saw the movie this last weekend and bought the books and am excited to read them for the first time!

Haven't watched the first eps of Legend of Korra yet even though they're available online. I would rather wait to see them as they air. April 14!

If anyone wants to talk nerdy to me or just keep up with me better I've been using iMessage on my iTouch so anyone with Apple products who has it or downloads it can message me from that (or from an iPhone). ::shrugs::

I've honestly been keeping to myself a lot these days. I don't know what to say or how much to say. It's not like anything specific is happening in my life. Just... Keeping it together and moving forward.

I really hate LJ right now. Not only have they not done anything to fix the god awful new comment pages but anytime I post a comment it doesn't matter what icon I choose it always uses my default. I don't feel like looking through their mess of a navigation system to find where I can complain about this. I love having extra userpics so I can have at least one icon for all of my interests but enough is enough. If I can't even use them I'm letting my paid account go down. Maybe I'll budget an extra comic each month instead (since right now I'm only buying Batwoman and Catwoman).

I haven't been commenting much because my mom surprised me with an iTouch for x-mas so I've been pretty much just using that for internet and it's a pain to type out comments on it. I am still reading everything though! iTouch and Dragon AgeCollapse )

I should probably not even talk about my life. I'm pretty much a failure as a human being. Oh well. God willing I'll get it together.

I've finally started watching the X-files again. I got mad after I discovered BBC America only had the first two seasons and despite downloading seasons 3-6 I hadn't watched them. But now I am woo woo.

And I finished reading Mastiff by Tamora Pierce last night. So awesome. If you love young adult fantasy and you haven't read anything by Tamora Pierce there is seriously something wrong with your life. :p Her writing is so immersive and wonderful.

Other updates in my life include lots of excellent family time. Got to spend some quality time with my favourite little cousin recently. He's growing up so fast (he's ten now)!

And now, because I can't resist them, an icon meme! This one is interactive so here you go:

1. Reply to this post with "I WANT A BAD ROMANCE," and I will pick four of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon glee.

My three days of intensive editing are over just in time for a weekend up north -- yay! It's not the editing that was stressful it was definitely the pushed up deadline. I hate not have a day or two to just leave something alone and then to come back with a fresh perspective.

Anywho... silly meme time! I started filling this out to take a little break from editing the other night but then I noticed the inconsistent capitalization and started editing it. o_o

Technically I'm supposed to show you the meme and tell you to give me a fandom and then I'll fill it out but I've already filled out ones for Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Gundam Wing. Buuut if you really want me to fill out for another fandom I'd be happy to (I don't really know why any of you would though). I'll post the empty in case anyone wants to steal.

So thanks to pushed up deadlines I have to spend the next few days eating, sleeping, and breathing editing.

Just thought you should know.

I love it but it also frustrates the hell out of me. Also, what is with authors who think that because there is a colon in the title of the book they're citing it means they can just randomly stop capitalizing words after said colon? FAIL.

And I love when they use en and em dashes inconsistently. It's like... you got it right a paragraph ago! Were you copy-pasting from somewhere or did you just get lazy? Luckily there is alt + 0151 and ctrl + - for easy em and en dash making. Sigh.

The cool news is that I just got a new freelancing gig and if it goes well I might have some more work from this person. :] And I think the journal I work for is going to start publishing two issues a year instead of just one so that means more work for me.

In fandom related news I have been enjoying the new season of True Blood so far!

Now have a cute little GWing thingy from a doujinshiCollapse )

"Today, tragedy struck. Hundreds of innocent exclamation points died after being used needlessly in an already god-awful fanfic. Family and relatives are still mourning the loss. A funeral service will be held today at three."

Heh, from an old fanfic I read recently. Too funny not to share.

I was so pleased with myself last month for updating more regularly and mistakenly thought I'd keep up with it. Well, my life is fairly boring anyway so I suppose I don't need to update constantly just to be all, "Applied for another job today, watched some TV, read some fanfiction."

This week has been full of friend love. I think I've had a serious conversation with all of my close friends. I'm not the kind of person who reaches out very often for fear of being rejected but this week I reached out to my friends and got only love in return (not that there was some specific reason I was reaching out but I did tell a few people things that I'd been keeping bottled up for a while).

That and the fact that I've been writing again (and plotting/thinking about my characters almost non-stop) has really boosted my mood and I've been feeling happy this week.

I think the friend stuff has helped me a lot. It's not like much has happened but just talking about some old frustrations and sadness and starting to trust the people around me more makes my heart feel... It's hard to explain. It's like I'm not as worried anymore that people will hurt me and I feel lighter.

I've also been rewatching Gundam Wing and fangirling damn near constantly with Brittany. It's so fucking awesome. We've been babbling about spoilers for Frozen Teardrop and sharing fic and looking at fanart. Good good times. Oh, Gundam Wing, I don't know how to quit you and your characters. This is the first time I've rewatched the series since high school so my perspective on some things has been different too, which is always interesting. And of course I had to switch back to my GWing mood theme. I hadn't used my BSG one for long and I still love it but yeah... GWing mood theme and relevant GWing reference for my comment title thingy was so necessary.

Hmm hmm hmm anyway. Going to see Green Lantern tomorrow with Brittany and then Saturday I am going to my cousins open house and I get to see lots of my family! Yay!

So I went looking for spoilers on the new Gundam Wing novelization (which has some extra backstory but is mostly about the original characters being all old and some of them having kids and um). I am frakking spazzing. I mean, SPAZZING. S-P-A-Z-Z-I-N-G.

My feelings at this time can only properly be expressed through gifs.

Gifs, gifs everywhere (okay, three)Collapse )

I don't think any of my active flisters are GWing fans but I hope someone proves me wrong and wants to spazz about this with me. If not, carry on. Although at least look at the gifs because they are awesome.
